Forschungsschwerpunkt
Der Lehrstuhl für Physische Geographie mit Schwerpunkt-Mensch-Umwelt-Forschung untersucht die Wechselwirkungen zwischen naturräumlicher Ausstattung, menschlicher Ressourcennutzung und rezenten Umweltveränderungen. Unsere Forschung unterstützt die Entwicklung von Strategien für den Schutz und die nachhaltige Nutzung von Biodiversität und natürlichen Ressourcen unter Berücksichtigung der physisch-geographischen Gegebenheiten und gesellschaftlicher Ansprüche. Prof. Christine Schmitt ist studierte Landschaftsökologin mit Spezialgebiet Vegetationsgeographie und Erfahrung in der internationalen Politikberatung. Sie geht insbesondere der Frage nach, wie sich Klima- und Landnutzungswandel auf Artenvielfalt und Ökosystemdienstleistungen von tropischen und gemäßigten Wäldern und Waldlandschaften auswirken. Der geographische Schwerpunkt ihrer Forschung liegt in Europa und Ostafrika. Am Lehrstuhl kommen unterschiedliche Methoden zum Einsatz wie z.B. Vegetationserhebungen, Baumringanalyse, Fernerkundung und Befragungen, und wir kooperieren in inter- und transdisziplinären Forschungsprojekten. Ein Lehr- und Forschungslabor befindet sich im Aufbau.

+++ ERASMUS+ Projekt BESTNATURE startet +++
(01.01.24) Das Erasmus+ Projekt BESTNATURE mit Partnern aus Österreich und Italien bietet im Sommersemester englischsprachige Veranstaltungen im Onlineformat an. Die sechs besten Studierenden erhalten eine Förderung, um an unserer September-Exkursion in die Buchenwaldnationalparke Kalabriens teilzunehmen.
+++ gtoe Jahrestagung in Lissabon +++
(01.01.24) Die Jahrestagung der Europäischen Gesellschaft für Tropenökologie (gtoe) findet dieses Jahr vom 12.-16. Februar in Lissabon, Portugal statt. Dr. João de Deus Vidal leitet eine Session zum Umweltwandel in tropischen Bergökosystemen.
+++ Felderhebungen in Kenia abgeschlossen +++
(01.01.24) Die Fotofallen-Kampagne im Arabuko Sokoke Wald, Kenia, wurde erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Kerstin Hikel führte die Erhebung über einen Zeitraum von drei Monaten durch. Ziel war es herauszufinden, welche Tiere zur Samenverbreitung bestimmter Baumarten beitragen können. Dies spielt eine wichtige Rolle für den Biodiversitätserhalt (siehe auch BioCult Projekt).
