Double-Degree-Promotion
Double-degree doctoral programme (Partnership Agreement) between the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences at the University of Passau and the University of Antwerp in Belgium.
Introduction
As part of an international cooperation between the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences (SoBiF) at the University of Passau and the University of Antwerp in Belgium, a double-degree doctoral programme is being introduced. This enables doctoral candidates to receive a doctoral degree from both universities upon successful completion of their studies:
- University of Antwerp: conferment of the title ‘PhD’
- SoBiF of the University of Passau: conferment of the title ‘Dr. phil.’ or another title permitted by the doctoral degree regulations.

Structure of the Doctorate
- The doctoral candidates are to complete research stays at one of the partner institutions either in rotation or consecutively. The research periods are determined in joint consultation between the doctoral candidates and the supervisors. The supervisors ensure that the doctoral candidates carry out research work for at least six months at each of the partner institutions.
- Joint supervision by a supervisor from each of the two universities.
- An oral examination conducted by a joint examination committee (jury) at the University of Antwerp or, alternatively, at the SoBiF of the University of Passau.
