Bancharat Polpila is scheduled to deliver a lecture on Generation Z's role in commemorating October 6 between 2018 and 2025, in collaboration with Hamburger Gesellschaft für Thaiistik e.V. (HGT), on 27 February from 14:00 to 16:00 (CET). The topic concerns Generation Z’s growing political awareness, rooted in Thailand’s history and shaping how young people interpret the October 6 memorial events. Contemporary youth are engaging with the past in a political manner—reinterpreting historical events, constructing alternative narratives, and utilizing collective memory to critique authoritarianism, address impunity, and promote democratic values. In her online lecture for the HGT, our upcoming speaker, Bancharat Polpila from the University of Passau, will analyze the commemorations at Thammasat University from 2018 to 2025 and emphasize how counter-memory challenges official silence, thereby enabling young people to envisage a more democratic future.
