Work experience
Gaining work experience is part and parcel of academic study and rounds out a university's study programme. The benefits are clear, as this gives you an opportunity to apply theory in practice and to reflect on theory in practice

Bachelor's and master's degree programmes
Students enrolled in the bachelor's and master's degree programmes are required to find their own internships/industrial placements, as this forms part of the application process. That said, the University of Passau offers support. In their search, they can always rely on the extensive support provided by the University’s Centre for Careers and Competencies. This department publishes a weekly newsletter with an updated list of currently available internships in Germany and abroad.
You may also want to consider completing an internship abroad to expand your international skills.
Find out more about the service learning programme. It offers a wide range of international opportunities and, in certain cases, can be recognised as an internship.
Should an internship be recognised toward your degree programme, please submit the following documents after completing your internship to your Internship Coordinator (Study Programme Coordinator):
- Recognition form Antrag auf Anrechnung,
- A signed lettter of recommendation including the exact dates of your time with the organisation
- A written internship report that aligns with the requirements as set forth by the joint intership guidelines.
The minimum required duration of the internship can be found in the Study & Examination Regulations of your study programme. The ZKK offers information on internships in: "Rund ums Praktikum" Here you will find information and forms on Internship in Germany and abroad, job boards, internship recommendations, recognition and contracts.
According to Art. 48 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHschG), students may request leave of absence from their studies for valid reasons. The completion of an internship in Germany or abroad is considered a legitimate reason, provided the internship takes up over 50% of the teaching period. Please contact the Student Registration office for specific legal information, deadlines and the application form.
