Anna Ryzhova and Prof. Töpfl have published a new article in the academic journal International Communication Gazette. Based on 42 interviews, the study examines what Russian speakers in Germany know about the media landscapes in Russia and Germany. The findings suggest that many respondents have limited knowledge of the differences between democratic and authoritarian media systems and rely on "folk theories" when evaluating news. The researchers highlight the importance of transnational news literacy in helping audiences critically assess information originating from different media systems.
