Project description:
The student research assistant, who is ideally studying the M.Sc. International Economics and Business, M.A. Development Studies programme, M.A. International Cultural and Business Studies or at M.A. Geography, will support the research project, ReValueD. This project focuses on the concept of the bioeconomy. As developing countries face the challenge of fostering economic growth under the constraint of environmental regulation, the bioeconomy is considered a means to overcome the development gap between agrarian economies and sustainable industrialization by creating industries based on biological resources and bioprocesses (e.g. biodiesel, bioplastic, bio-textiles etc.). The overarching goal is to bridge technical knowledge of the bioeconomy with socio-economic realities to create strong market links between Costa Rica and developed countries. This student position will focus on the project’s study case of Costa Rica.
Key responsibilities:
• Support research activities including literature research, data retrieval, data preparation and analysis, follow-up-survey preparation.
• Assist with organisational tasks related to the project and logistics of the fieldwork.
Requirements:
• Language Proficiency: Very good command of Spanish & English
• Bachelor’s Degree: in Economics or a related field (social sciences), with proven basic knowledge in economics.
• Current enrollment in a Master’s program at a German University
• Interest and willingness to participate in primary data collection (in Costa Rica), data processing and anaylsis.
• Interest in interdisciplinary and international research
What we offer: Participation in an international and interdisciplinary academic research project as well as the opportunity to gain experience in data-handling and analyses. Ideally you will also collect unique data to analyse as part of your master’s thesis. We also offer you the possibility to write a master’s thesis under close supervision based on this work (planned: June 2024) as part of the project. The contract has a term of up to 12 months.
