This spring, as already in 2015, 19 BA-students went on an excursion to Indonesia which was supervised by Dr. Kristina Großmann und Lita Priatna. However, the program of this year’s excursion was extraordinary, as the cooperating Professor Yunita Winarto of the University of Indonesia in Depok invited the students to spend some nights in the village of Cangkring which is situated in the province of Westjava. Ten Indonesian students of the University of Indonesia accompanied the German students and supported them as mediators between the worlds, and to overcome and discuss barriers between languages and cultures.
The village is situated five kilometers from the north coast of Java and the inhabitants mostly live on fishing, shrimps farming and the trade of sea weed. The students stayed with villagers in their houses and gained overwhelming insights into their daily life, their income generation as well as cultural and religious activities. The German students also conducted, together with the Indonesian students, small projects on topics like the economic situation, gender relations, environmental knowledge, waste, and minorities.
