One of our PhD students, Dimas D. Laksmana, participated in the JPS (Journal of Peasant Studies) Writeshop 2021 to present his article entitled "Beyond our gardens and forests: The social lives of artisanal organic coconut sugar". This article attempts to address the tensions which arise from the integration of smallholder farmers into global organic market. In addition to the critical and constructive feedbacks he received during the peer-review process, he benefited immensely from the discussions on contemporary debates in critical agrarian studies, the persisting inequality in academic publication, proposal writing, and other topics related to journal publication. The next writeshop is planned to take place in Cape Town, South Africa, in December 2022.
