In June 2012, the first comprehensive exhibition of works by the Javanese painter Raden Saleh (1809-1880) took place at Galeri Nasional Indonesia. The exhibition attracted more than 20.000 visitors in less than three weeks, making it a unique success.
Following up the exhibition, the Goethe Institute together with the German Embassy presents the first authoritative book on the life and work of Raden Saleh. The large volume of almost 400 pages was written and composed by the curator of exhibition Dr. Werner Kraus together with Irina Vogelsang (Ph.D.student of the University of Passau) .The book launch is taking place this week.
