In a world where we produce enough food to feed everyone, up to 783 million people still go to bed hungry each night. That’s approximately one in every 10 people worldwide. Of these 783 million, 345 million people are facing acute food insecurity, an increase of almost 200 million people since early 2020. The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization in the fight against hunger. WFP saves lives in emergencies and changes lives for millions through sustainable development.
In 2015 the WFP Innovation Accelerator was launched with the support of the German and Bavarian government and the mission to disrupt hunger at scale. Now in its ninth year, it supports and scales bold new solutions to reach Zero Hunger and the wider SDGs. In 2022 alone, the WFP Innovation Accelerator portfolio of over 150 innovations reached 37 million in 88 countries and territories around the globe.
At the kick-off of the Passau Research Colloquium, Arunima Singh, who leads the Scaleup Enablement Team, presented her work, let you in on the journey of some of the Accelerator's most successful innovations, and shared the challenges and lessons learned along the way.
