This April, Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Korff, Chair of Southeast Asian Studies II, and three of his colleagues visited Rangoon for nine days this spring. Funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), they investigated opportunities for partnerships with Burmese universities and research cooperation. After talking to the Deputy Director of the Higher Education Commission, the team received the permission to visit the University of Yangoon, one of the oldest and formerly best universities in Asia. Here, they had the opportunity of speaking to the director of the university, as well as to a number of local professors and to the staff of development organizations.
