Dear Quietschies - welcome to our faculty!
We have collected the most important questions that might be relevant for you and compiled them below. If you still have any unanswered questions, please take a look at our O-Week page or contact us on Instagram.
We wish you a successful start to your studies!
The O-Week is the orientation week before the start of your studies, which should make it easier for you to get started. Here you will receive useful and helpful tips about your studies, help with creating your timetable and interesting facts about the campus. You can get to know the campus on numerous campus tours, where you can also take a look at the various university buildings and the libraries. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Our guides will be happy to help you. In our Stadtraylle you also have the opportunity to explore our beautiful city of Passau together with others for the first time and get an overview in a playful way. Sports and fun are also included in our varied program.
The O-Week is aimed at all first-year students who are starting their studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Education at the University of Passau. This includes Bachelor's, Master's and teacher training students. At other universities, the newcomers are usually called “Ersties”, but here you are affectionately known as “Quietschies”. You will definitely find out what this is all about during the O-week ;)
For student teachers of economics, mathematics and computer science, we recommend that you also take part in the O-Week of the other student councils at the same time. You can find their programs here: Economics, Mathematics/Computer Science.
The O-Week always takes place during the first week before the start of lectures. In the summer semester 2025, we welcome you from April 22-26. Most of the events will take place in the university rooms or on campus. You can find out how to get there below. You will find the exact program of the O-Week on our website as soon as it is ready.
The Campuscard can be used in many ways: You can use it for your locker in front of the library, the canteen, for copying, for bus travel or for the sports center. To get it, you have to apply for it on StudIP. Your Campuscard will be sent to you before you start your studies. At the bottom of the card it says “valid from or until” in small letters - this means that it is valid for this period. You can also find more information about the Campus Card and how to apply for it in the help portal.
Important: Your Campus Card is only valid after validation!
StudIP is part of our campus management system. To do this, log in with your ZIM ID (e.g. Muster01) and your password. The identifier will be sent to you in advance by email. Once you have successfully registered, you must apply for your Campuscard. You can also register for your courses in the semester on StudIP. There are also events for the O-Week for which registration is required.
You can find detailed instructions on registration etc. in the help portal.

Here you can find a map of how to get to the university and a map of all university buildings! You can reach the university's Nikolakloster on foot via the central bus station (ZOB). To be able to use the free bus service, your Campuscard must be validated in advance. Bike racks are available throughout the university for cyclists. The university underground car park can also be used during the lecture-free period. You can find out what you need to know about this and all other important information on the website Alles Wichtige rund um den Campus.
For an initial overview, there is a 360 degree tour of the campus.
You can find out how to register for the lectures during the O-week in the subject-specific timetable consultations. If you would like to register for the courses on StudIP in advance, you will find detailed instructions under the question "What is StudIP and how do I register for it?".
Please note: The placement tests for the language courses take place in the O-week. So find out in good time about the languages you want to learn and the associated placement tests. Information and the dates can be found on the Language Center website. If you have any questions about recognition and language courses, take a look at the FAQ section of the Language Center.
At the University of Passau (UP) you can access the internet via Eduroam. In order to use it, however, you must first install it on your cell phone and download your user-specific certificate. Detailed installation instructions for all operating systems can be found on the ZIM website.
Once downloaded, you can log in to all universities worldwide that use Eduroam.
You can only access certain contents of the university website via the UP intranet.
