Bringing together contributions from theology, sociology, philosophy, and development studies, the volume explores the complex relationship between care and social inequality through a range of empirically grounded case studies and theoretical approaches.
In addition to serving as co-editor, Mareike Sophie Hoffmann contributes the chapter “Development on Whose Terms? Paternalism in Gender and Youth Empowerment Programmes in the Solomon Islands.” The chapter examines how gender equality and youth empowerment initiatives in the Solomon Islands may reproduce paternalistic development logics and colonial continuities and discusses their implications for local agency and self-determination.
