From September 1 to 3, 2026, the Chair of Development Politics, in cooperation with partners, will host a panel at the EuroSEAs conference titled: "Mass Mobilizations between the Return of Students Protests and New Forms of Digital Protest - Positioning Southeast Asia in Social Movement Studies."
The panel will examine how insights from Southeast Asian social movements can broaden debates in social movement studies and promote a more global and inclusive perspective. Key questions will include how Southeast Asian social movements can be incorporated into global frameworks and how context-specific concepts can be developed from regional cases. By highlighting Southeast Asian experiences, the panel aims to explore alternative mobilization strategies and challenge existing theoretical models, contributing to a more diverse and worldwide understanding of social movements.
